Privacy Notice (POPIA)
Version privacy-2026-10-04 · Last updated 4 October 2026
1. What this notice covers
This notice explains what personal information Best Basket SA processes, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). It covers only what the app actually does today — no more.
2. What we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and sign-in credentials (passwords are handled by our authentication provider; we never see or store your password in readable form).
- Your shopping data — the products in your My List and This Trip lists, including quantities, so they sync across your devices.
- App preferences — your chosen stores, deal types, loyalty-card declarations and shopping mode. These are stored on your device and linked to your account.
- Technical and security logs — basic records needed to keep the service running and secure (for example sign-in events and error logs).
- Anonymous usage counts — if advertising is shown, we count views and taps using an anonymous session identifier. These counts are aggregated and are not linked to your account.
- Optional reports you send us — price corrections or product requests, only when you choose to submit them.
3. Why we use it
- To provide the service — sign you in and show your prices and comparisons.
- To sync your lists and preferences across your devices.
- To improve price and catalogue quality.
- To keep the service secure and to provide support.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for marketing.
4. Who processes it
We use a small number of service providers to run the app: cloud hosting, database and authentication providers (currently Lovable Cloud), and the email service that delivers verification and password-reset emails. They process personal information only to provide those services to us.
5. Retention and security
We keep your account and list data while your account is active, and delete it when you ask us to delete your account. Technical and security logs are kept for a limited period only. We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards — including per-account access controls on your data — but no online service can promise absolute security.
6. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw any optional consent you have given (for example, submitted reports). Deleting your account removes your lists and preferences. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe your information has been mishandled.
7. Contact
Best Basket SA is currently in a friends-and-family testing phase. For any privacy question or request, please contact us through the same channel you were invited to the test through, and we will respond directly.
8. Changes to this notice
If we change what we collect or why, we will update this notice and its version identifier, and existing users will be asked to review the updated notice.
